What is a Vessel Sink Faucet?

When designers created the modern and eye-catching concept of vessel sinks, where the sink is no longer submerged in the countertop, but instead raised and placed on top, they also created the need for new faucets. Traditional ones can not be used with a vessel sink. This is good news though, since now completely new lines of stylish, modern faucets are available!

The Traditional Vessel Sink Faucet

In the case of the classic bathroom setup of a sink and a faucet, the faucet is attached to the sink itself. However, vessel sinks are attached on top of the countertop in a bowel shape, thus there is no place to attach the faucet.

This was solved by making faucets that attach to other items. The sink and the faucet are, or at least appear to be, two separate items. The plumbing, obviously, connect underneath the countertop.

What design was chosen for traditional vessel faucets? Well, designers, at first, opted for a style filled with contrast. Due to a shiny, sleek metal finish, the faucets does not appear out of place in a modern setting, but the single shaft shape extending from the countertop provides associations to classic and old-fashioned designs as well.

New Innovative Designs

The choices available no longer stops at a single shaft faucet in a chrome finish. In fact, the number of available designs, shapes, and materials is so extensive, that any sort of comprehensive summary here is an impossible task.

Faucets can be found in gold, copper, brass, and nickel finishes. Some combine a glass element on top of the chrome shaft, making them a perfect compliment to a glass sink. If the attachment to the countertop is not for you, others can be attached to the wall. You also can choose between faucets with separate controls for warm and cold water or faucets with a single control.

Extensive range of vessel sinks, extensive range of vessel sink faucets

It is only fitting that the wide range of vessel sinks is complimented by a wide range of faucets. Whatever your preference, it is bound to be available. The question is rather if you will be able to settle on just one!
