Washer Dryer – Consumer Reviews Picks

There are many good reasons for wanting a washer/dryer combination rather than two separate stand-alone machines. Space availability in a small apartment or home may necessitate the use of a small piece of laundry equipment. A single person who does not generate a great deal of dirty laundry may also want to take advantage of the space saving convenience of a washer/dryer combo unit. There are many brands and models available but a good place to begin searching for the right combo for your needs is online.

The name may not be impressive but the Frigidaire GLEH1642FS is one of the most highly rated washer dryer combos currently on the market. At only 27 inches wide, the front loading washer has a 3.1 cubic foot capacity. The upper dryer includes a moisture sensor so that drying will be stopped when the clothes are done rather than waste electricity running on a timer. The Frigidaire GLEH1642FS has fast drying time and a gentle wash cycle. The biggest complaint is the rather high volume of the end-of-cycle buzzer.

Another small washer/dryer combo appliance with a large name is the GE Spacemaker WSM2420DWW. At only 24 inches wide this laundry center will fit in a small space. Unfortunately it also only provides a small capacity, only 1.5 cubic feet of washer space and 4.3 cubic feet for the drying unit on top. The GE Spacemaker WSM2420DWW is a very basic unit but users give it a good performance rating in both washing and drying categories. The biggest problem anyone has is that it does run somewhat noisily and the small capacity does not mix with the volume of laundry a family will generate.

The third washer/dryer combo on most review lists takes combo to a new level. The LG WM3431HW is only 24 inches wide and 33 inches tall. It does both functions in the same tub and does not require an external dryer vent. It is only 2.44 cubic feet in capacity and reviewers say it does take much too long to dry clothes even though the washer function is superb. See more about Washer Dryer units here.
