Tips for Keeping Your Mattress Looking and Feeling Like New

Everyone who has had to buy a new mattress knows how expensive they can be, so it’s a good idea to do your best to make sure that your mattress lasts for a long time.

I write mattress reviews all the time, so hopefully some of my advice will help – here are some of the tips that you can use to keep your mattress looking and working well for a while.

  • For stain prevention, use mattress pads. This will help your mattress stay looking new. Waterproof mattress pads are the best, especially for a child’s mattress.
  • Don’t leave wet items on your bedding, such as towels or just washed items that are not fully dry.
  • Clean a mattress that is dirty or stained with an upholstery cleaner that foams and allow it to dry.
  • When doing spring cleaning, give your mattress a vacuuming with the upholstery attachment on your vacuum.
  • Air your mattress once a year during spring cleaning in the sun.
  • Flip regular mattresses once per month and a futon mattress twice monthly. Alternating the way that you turn the mattress is going to prevent it from sagging.
  • Don’t let your kids jump on the bed – this is going to damage the mattress and the springs and it’s dangerous for the kids to say the least.

Remember, there are different things that can damage new plush mattresses and decrease their life span. If you use the tips that are listed above, you are going to discover that your mattress is going to serve you for a long time.

You spend about a third of your day in bed, so you want to make sure that the mattress that you have is going to be comfortable and help you to get a good night’s sleep. Keeping it maintained well is going to help it do its job and help you have a better day the next day.
