Teak makes a wonderful choice for patio sets. It has many advantages over materials such as resin, plastic and iron. Teak is a very strong wood that is durable and highly resistant to decay. It rarely rots or cracks due to its dense grain. It is a hard wood and thus does not warp or split. These properties make it a natural for outdoor living areas.
The oils that teak has in it make it repel insects and fungi. This is a tremendous benefit when used outside. It fades to a silvery gray as it ages. If you prefer it to maintain its original colors you can apply teak oil every three months and this will prevent the aged look of old teak from taking over your furniture. If you neglect to do this, teak patio sets can also be sanded to bring back their original color. In general, teak requires very little care. However, it is a good idea to cover it or bring it inside for the winter as you would any type of patio set.

The only drawback to teak is the price. A five piece teak patio set starts at around eight hundred dollars for your very basic set and goes up from there. So you are not buying a new set every two or three years like you would with a plastic or resin based material.
Overall teak is a good value for the long run. It is easily changed by adding new cushions. You can sand it, oil it or let it naturally age to change the colors. It’s a beautiful wood and will probably be the last set you have to buy.
