The Importance Of Green Lawn Care
These days everyone is “going green” and that means consumers like you and me are faced with an ever-changing landscape (no pun!) of choices to make our lawns and yards look good without destroying the environment in the process. So what is green lawn care and does it work?
Green Lawn Care – Organic Lawn Care
Most folks, whether they know it or not, when they talk about “going green” or being “eco friendly” with their lawn care are talking about using organic lawn fertilizers. You see, it is in your lawn treatment schedule that you can effect the quickest and greenest change.
I recommend you use organic fertilizers that also contain a nice bit of iron so you can get some long term, sustained green from your treatments. If you do this, you can get away with just 2 applications of natural fertilizer per year. This is because organic fertilizers are very very slow releasing. In fact, some take up to 3 months to release all of their nutrients into the soil. Slow growth is sustained and that is very healthy for turf.
Green Lawn Equipment
The next best way to go green with your lawn care is in using eco friendly lawn care equipment. My fave way to hit this is by using propane powered weed whackers (string trimmers) and back pack blowers. Propane power is very clean, very efficient and is does not smell bad of fumes! Also, with propane lawn equipment, there is no fear of spills or leaking of gas onto the lawn. Gas on the lawn will pretty much kill it, in case you were wondering!
