The Importance of Changing Your Furnace Air Filters

During a recent conversation with friends, they were mentioning repeatedly the concerns they had with issues relating to allergies and breathing issues they were experiencing while inside their home and how it was affecting their daily activities and disturbing their sleeping patterns. As the conversation continued others began making suggestions of possible causes ranging from certain foods to specific detergents and cleaning products. It seemed everyone offered their own personal suggestion but finally someone asked the question, “How often do you look at, inspect and change your furnace air filters“? You could almost hear a pin drop. It became obvious that this was not a consideration of high priority for the family seeking answers to their questions and the next few moments provided an invaluable education.

These folks became aware of the fact that often the indoor air quality can be as much as two to five times worse then that of the outdoor air and this outlines the importance of changing your home air filter.

They learned that the furnace air filter should and must be changed on a regular schedule to maintain its peak efficiency and that probably once a month would be the proper timing.

They also learned something of the variety and styles of filters that were available to them for their use. They would come to understand that furnace filters could be made of different materials and even enjoy different configurations. It seemed as if the pleated type held the most popularity as it was explained how the pleats help trap additional particles and perhaps might last a bit longer without being changed.

Moreover, they were made aware of the fact that different conditions set different guidelines as far as the type of filter to be used and the frequency with which it should be changed. Obviously, the more people living in the home, as well as the number of pets in the home, and also the types and frequency of activities that take place could all have a say in the consideration of the furnace air filters. They left with a clear understanding of the importance of paying the proper attention to the furnace air filter issue.
