Mirrors are objects that we generally take for granted but they provide a very important service. In this article I’ll be discussing some of the history of mirrors as well as the various types you may want to consider when buying your home.
Mirrors have been around for thousands of years because they’ve been extremely useful to people across the globe. The first mirrors are thought to date to around 6000BC in the Middle East. However there could have been mirrors before this that have not been discovered yet.
During these times mirror’s weren’t as we know them now though as they weren’t made of glass. Most of the time they were made out of a type of volcanic rock that could be polished to become reflective.
After these types of mirrors were used metal mirrors began to become popular. Just like volcanic rock they can be polished to become reflective and hence can be used as a mirror.
Even though mirrors have been around for thousands of years the range of options available when it comes to buying one is still astonishing. This can make it quite difficult to buy the right one for you so make sure you take your time. A personal favourite of mine is the Venetian mirror.
Remember, you need to make sure you get a functional mirror that’s large enough to be comfortable to use but also one that’s of a style that fits in well with the rest of your interior design. If you don’t consider the design of a room before buying a mirror for it then you risk it looking out of place. For example a shabby chic vanity mirror will look good in some rooms not so stylish in others.
Mirrors have a big impact on our everyday lives so make sure you spend some time thinking about which is the right type for you.
