The Do’s and Don’ts When Fixing a Clogged Toilet

There is several ways for fixing a clogged toilet. While you can handle the task yourself, it pays to learn the methods used in addition to the dos and don’ts. In some cases, you can use plungers to unclog your commode. Most clogged systems can be cleaned without hiring an expert. Yet, to unclog the commode yourself, learn a few steps to clear up your clogged unit.

Steps

First, flush your commode one time. If you notice the unit is not flushing, rather than flush again consider using a plunger. If you flush repeatedly, it will waste water supply and cause more water to pump inside your bowl. If the water pumps in the bowl, it will gradually drain.

Second, if the commode does not flush the first time, put on a pair of rubber gloves to protect your hands. You are very aware that toilets are an unsanitary environment where many germs develop. Protect your hands by putting on the rubber gloves.

Third, throw some newspapers or old rags around the area where you will be working. Protecting your floors is important, since if your clogged toilet overflows, the water will spill on your floor. You can prevent overflow of water easily by protecting your floors. Moreover, you can prevent cleaning up disgusting messes or causing damage to your home.

Other ways for fixing a clogged toilet

There are other, more unconventional clogged toilet solutions that you can try for more stubborn clogs. For example, you can add some hot water and soap in the commode to unclog your toilet. In some situations, it will work but remember that if you are living in an apartment complex, you should call your manager first.

You can pour a half bucket of very hot water in the bowl. Make sure the water is hotter than coffee that you can drink, but not to the boiling point. Raise the temperature of the water if the first batch does not work. Allow sitting, and after a few minutes, the water should go down the drains. Repeat the method, or try plunging your toilet.
Using a plunger is a good choice if hair follicles, toys, or other items are not in your commode causing the clog. Use heavy-duty plungers, preferably the round shaped plungers. The cheap suction cup types will not do the job as efficiency as the rubber flange types with foldout that forms into a seal.

Larger plungers work best, since it applies more force to the clogged area. With the right plunger in hand, insert the plunging device in your toilet bowl. Press down firmly and slow. Make sure the plunger covers the complete opening.

You can add some water in the bowl while plunging if necessary. Last, some people use coat hangers, or plumbing snakes to unclog their commodes. A snake is a flexible cleaning tool sometimes known as an auger. The wire coils so that it can extend deep into the toilet to remove harsh items that is clogging your commode. You can rent snakes at most local hardware stores.
