Spanish Metal Pergolas

A Spanish metal pergola is probably your most traditional option when it comes to pergolas. You need to make sure that it does work with the actual structure of your house. You also want to ensure that it blends in beautifully with your garden. This can be done by using natural pattern on any curtains or with natural tones of paint. Pergola construction and design such as this is probably the most opulent look that you can get outdoors without looking completely unnatural at the same time.

I love the idea of pergolas because then your yard stays looking great all year round instead of just in the spring. Your backyard doesn’t only have to be beautiful in the summer when the flowers are in bloom. This works best if you have a stucco style house or a red tile roof. Otherwise this is not going to give you a seamless look with your architecture. If you just have a basic rambler with vinyl siding on it then you want to be more subtle with your Spanish style. Just use it on your furniture or a few terracotta pots.

However, since stucco is such a dramatic finish outdoors there is a lot more place for these metal designs than indoors. It’s going to use a wrought iron style. It’s going to be pretty intricate too. It’s also going to have a lot of pattern to it. Plus it uses tons of scrollwork. It mimics wrought iron as much as possible.

The Spanish tile also gives you the most options when it comes to the actual curtains that you use for shade. They should be lined so they are pretty opulent. You won’t see white here because it’s too modern. Any type of tan works beautifully. If you do have a canvas then you need to blend it into the Spanish look. This means stenciling on top of it such as batik looks or block prints. This is an opportunity to bring in a Spanish color like terra-cottas as well as red tones. You can use this as an accent color throughout your yard. These orange tones won’t stand out as much as they would indoors because you can use them on pots, concrete flooring, or even as an accent color with your flowers.

You also have a lot of different options when it comes to the structure itself. As far as metallic colors typically you would find this in a black wrought iron tone. Since this has always been a popular style you can easily find it at thrift stores and then spray paint it black. Make it look antique with a hammered style finish. Any kind of bronze or copper also works well here too. Copper will of course age over time and take on a lot of green patina. You also might want to consider just painting it a chocolate brown. This would be a little bit warmer than your black and it can help you to mimic more expensive oil rubbed bronze finishes. A Spanish metal pergola can blend in with all different styles of architecture if you’re willing to decorate the entire area.
