Choosing the Right Solar Lights

Did you ever think of adding some solar-powered lighting to your garden or home, but don’t know which type to obtain? Perhaps, the reasons you wish to install such lights could be either to make the walkway or driveway safer, or to enhance ambience of your garden landscaping. Whatever may be the reason to install solar lights, it will be essential to know what type of such lights will be ideal for your needs.

As the lighting term suggests, solar accent lights fit well as they are usually preferred because of the soft glowing light they emit to accentuate the area they cover. With just a single charge, these lights last for long periods of time, although they do not deliver bright light. Often times, these lights are hooked to an individual solar panel installed at a location which receives maximum sunlight, with the lights installed in hidden places, shaded ones in particular.

Solar lights designed for pathways are a little brighter when compared to accent lights. These types of lights will offer a minimum of 8 to10 hours of bright light, although this lighting time is less than what softer, accent lights deliver. Such lights are extremely easy to install, as they are an integral part of the solar panel. Install these lights along driveways, walkways, or any other place where you will require sufficient light to help you move about safely.

Solar-powered spot lights are much brighter than the two varieties described above, and usually available with remote panel. These spot lights can shed light on distant objects on your property such as tall bushes and trees. The spot lights of this exterior, landscape lighting option can be focused on an area that requires light, and their locations are usually installed in hidden places.

The brightest lighting of all is solar flood lights. These flood lights are not designed to deliver light for a longer time with a single charge, but are not expected to, either. These kinds of lights, generally are used more as lights for security purposes. They mostly have built-in motion sensors which allow them to switch on automatically when any nearby movement is detected. As they are on only when required, they can easily hold a charge till the next morning.

Hopefully, you have learned something about the various types of solar lights, which are available. Of course, this is just a small sample. What’s important to keep in mind before you start with your first project of solar lights, is the application of these lights. Then go ahead and shop for one that’s perfect for that application.
