Skylight Blind Solutions

If you are thinking about installing a skylight, or if you already have one, you are no doubt also thinking about what type of skylight blinds to install. Skylights are great for adding natural lighting to your room, however there is one drawback; they can sometimes allow too much light or heat into a room. That is why installing skylight blinds is somewhat of a necessity. They are not needed so much for privacy but they are needed to protect you from the hot midday sun or to allow you to darken the room whenever you need to.

Honeycomb blinds are a popular choice when it comes to deciding on the right blind for skylight installation. They are one of the best blinds when it comes to insulation, due to the way that the blinds themselves are made. For example, during winter you can allow the sun to shine directly into the room during the day which helps to heat your room. At dusk you can then close the blinds up, effectively trapping warm air inside and preventing the cooler outside air from coming in.

Another popular blind for skylights is the roller blind. Even remote controlled roller blinds are fairly inexpensive and they are quite easy to install. You will need to customize the installation a little as they need runner tracks on the side of the skylight in order to keep them in place. These are great if you need to be able to totally darken a room; simply buy blackout roller blinds.

Venetian blinds are also sometimes used on skylights. The plus with these blinds is that you can alter the angle of the blinds to allow varying degrees of light into the room.  While they are not quite as easy as other blinds to install, it is possible to do so and some people find the fact that they allow great light control to make it worth any difficulties with installation.

Whatever type of skylight blinds you install, you will probably want to look into remote controlled blinds. This certainly makes it very easy to open and close the blinds, though the downside is that the mechanics may sometimes need servicing, and remotes do have a habit of getting lost from time to time. Alternatively, people have used a skylight blind opening pole for many years, and in fact some still prefer this method.
