Shutters: Another thing to look at in a Window Treatment Store

You’ve browsed around the window treatment store a couple of times already, only to realize that there is one thing that you haven’t looked at, or even considered yet. And these are the shutters for windows. Oftentimes, when we think of window treatments, the first thing that comes to mind are curtains and drapes. Then we think about blinds and shades, then the valances, cornices, swags and lambrequins come next, and then we realize that we have totally overlooked the classic shutters.

A shutter is a frame, usually rectangular, that is comprised of several louvers or horizontal slats much like those of blinds and shades. These are usually made of solid material such as wood, metal or plastic. Shutters are something we should definitely consider for our windows. Shutters may prove to be more functional than other window treatments especially if our concern is privacy, weather, and lighting control.

Shutters are also much easier to install as there are some companies that cater to customizing the size of shutters to make them fit your window perfectly. Shutters also eliminate the long hours of having to choose which texture of fabric, color, pattern and style to use.

There are two essential types of shutters. The interior shutters and the exterior shutters. By the word itself, interior shutters are located at the inside portion of the window. For interior shutters, styles to choose from are plantation shutters, café shutters, multiple tier shutters, and accordion shutters, to name some. You can look into these types of shutters to see which one would best fit your home.

Exterior shutters on the other hand, are shutters that are located outside the window. These are otherwise known as European shutters, as most European homes employ this kind of window treatment. This type of shutter offers security, and weather protection.

So the next time you browse around the window treatment store, remember to look into shutters for windows. Who knows, maybe this type of window treatment is what you have been looking for all along.
