Remove Black Mold from Your Roof

No matter what type of mold problem you may have in your home it’s always an eye sore. But what most people don’t realize is that toxic mold can cause severe structural damage if you don’t take care of the problem immediately. Not to mention that it can actually make you sick. That’s why it’s extremely important that you remove black mold immediately.

A good example of this would be mold on the roof. If it’s left untreated not only doesn’t it make your neighbors think yuck, it can also cause you thousands of dollars in roofing repairs and even structural damage to the home.

So the first thing you need to do is make sure there are no signs of leaks up there. If you have a leak that is allowed to continue unchecked, moisture will start to seep into your home, which will then allow mold to grow. Those leaks can also allow toxic mold to develop on your ceilings and walls as well as inside of the wall. That’s why when you find a leak you need to stop it at the source right away.

• Once you’ve repaired the leak, you’ll want to purchase a mold spray that is intended for use on toxic mold.

• You’ll then want to spray or pour the product onto the affected shingles, making sure that they are well saturated and then let it set for the time indicated on the product.

• Next, you’ll need an old broom to sweep away the toxic mold from the shingles. Be sure to spray the broom down with the same product since fungus can spread. Or if you don’t mind giving it up, you can seal the broom in a plastic bag and throw it away when you’re done.

• Then, rinse the shingles with water from a lawn and gardening hose being careful not to allow the water to run under the shingle.

If you do find that the damage to your roof is beyond repair, you will need to contain a professional to help repair the damages. You should keep in mind that even though you may have been able to remove black mold from your roof, it is unlikely that your insurance company will cover the cost for roofing repairs that are caused by mold.
