Outdoor Furniture Cushion Issues

Having an outdoor living space can make living in a home nicer, as well as increase in the potential sale value when you do go to sell your home.  Adding wooden garden furniture to that living space is vital, but unfortunately, outdoor furniture can sometimes be uncomfortable to sit on.  Since the materials that are used when building outdoor furniture are usually rigid and tough, since they need to be able to stand up to the weather, they aren’t the best to sit on.  There is where outdoor cushions come in.  They are great to be able to sit down and enjoy the sun, or enjoy the nice cool air underneath your outdoor lights.

Unfortunately, there are some issues that creep up with existing cushions, and so here are a few things to look out for when it comes to your outdoor furniture cushions:

  • Mildew is a problem that some people have.  If your furniture does not provide proper drainage for the cushions when it rains, then the water will just collect and possibly turn to mildew.  This will ruin your cushions, and make them not usable again.  To guard against this, either bring your cushions in when you think it is going to rain, or make sure to hang up the cushions after it does rain so they can dry out properly.
  • Another issue is flattening.  Over time, and after a lot of people sitting on them, the outdoor furniture cushion will begin to flatten, and then you’re left with an uncomfortable, practically useless cushion.  There really isn’t much of a way to prevent this from happening, except to buy higher end cushions.
  • Wear and tear is another thing that affects cushions.  Whether you or your kids spill something on the cushions, or they accidentally get ripped by you or an animal, wear and tear just happens.  Try to be careful around your cushions, but sometimes you’ll just need to buy new cushions.
