Having an overlooked home is not very nice, but there are a number of improvements that you can make to increase the privacy of your home. Three popular methods of improving the privacy of your room are to use net curtains, vertical blinds or horizontal blinds.
Net eyelet curtains have for a long time been the ‘privacy tool’ of choice, from the outside they totally obscure views in to your home, when the lights are on though the net curtains provide no privacy whatsoever. From the inside looking out net curtain do obscure the view somewhat, it’s almost as though you are looking through a steamy window – blue skies become dulled and they really can become quite oppressive.
Vertical and horizontal blinds are a more modern choice to obscure the view in to your home. If you manage to get the angle just right you can see out of your windows but no one will be able to see in. If you like having the sun in your room though blinds can pose a bit of problem, to get the most of the sun in to your room you will need to keep adjusting the angle of blinds throughout the day to suit the position of the sun. In an office environment this can actually be a good thing because the strong sun on a computer screen can be very distracting and lead to eyestrain.
A new way of increasing the privacy of your home is increasing in popularity, using a freestanding screen in front of your living room window is a great way to create some privacy in your room. Using a room screen is a great way to express yourself and create cosy little retreat of a home. A sheer room divider screen will still allow light to pass through it and you will be able to see over the top of it when standing so you won’t get that foggy/misty view of the world that you would with net curtains.
