General Information About Large Mirrors

Mirrors have been around for thousands of years in one shape or other. From people being able to see their reflection in water to small compacts that enable you to do your makeup, mirrors of all shapes, sizes and construction are used by near enough every one.  A personal favorite  of mine is the Venetian mirror.

Large mirrors are generally used to give a much greater feeling of space in a room (because of the reflected light, they can act as a bright point for an otherwise dingy room, and give a perfect mirror image of whatever is in front of them).

As a piece of furniture in their own right, these mirrors can be conversation pieces, letting people know about your tastes in style and decor.

As with most things, but especially mirrors, there are many different shapes that can be had. You can even have one tailored to your specific preferences – say, you have an art deco home, you could get a huge mirror with sweeping curves to match your plaster work.

As well as the mirror shape, the frame is just as important. From a plain picture frame look, to an incredibly ornate French royalty look (complete with silver or gold effect and large swirls and incredible detail).

The usual yardstick is to take a picture of where you intend the mirror to go, and bring it with you when you visit a home decor shop or internet site. That way you can judge for yourself whether the piece will fit.

There are one or two considerations to take into account before jumping in with both feet:

First, decide which style of large mirror you want. Sleek and minimalist, classic picture frame style or heavily ornate.

Next, decide whether you want the mirror to be floor standing (leaning against the wall in effect, creating a different look on the usual approach), or affixed to the wall. Bear in mind that these large wall mirrors are exceptionally heavy and will require serious thought into securing them safely. Certainly not a one man job, and get the spirit level handy!

Last, decide on what price you wish to pay – this way, you will have a firm idea of all of the things that matter most to you in the buying process.
Being armed with this information is the first step to getting a wonderful talking point for the home; the next step is getting out and shopping for one!
