A Futon Mattress Can Be Inexpensive But Not Cheap

One of the classic things that people associate with a futon is that it is cheap or flimsy. At worst, they may have slept on an older style that left them in pain when they woke up. This is not the kind of endorsement that any futon manufacturer would want to hear or have spread around. But, there was a time in the not too distant past when a futon was really the mainstay of the college student scene or the cheap bachelor pad set-up. This is simply not the case anymore. Now, futons are more like regular mattresses. By regular, I mean mattresses that are made by the large manufacturers of conventional mattresses, like Beautyrest™ and others.

In order for the futon mattress to rise to another standard, the manufacturers here had to switch things up. One thing that changed was that they began making them with the same types of components and materials that other mattresses are made of. These consist of things like inner springs, latex foam and memory foam-type toppers and materials. This is where the industry is headed, so they the futon there too.

The plan seemed to have worked because now you can find inexpensive futon beds that don’t sacrifice anything in terms of quality or comfort. In fact, many people use a futon as their primary sleeping arrangement. This was not the case with futon mattresses from years ago. There was a time when having a futon was a hot trend, like in the early 1980s. This was a ‘thing’ with the Asian-inspired home decor movement as well. Some people really like the look and functionality and stuck with them. Others found that the look got quickly outdated. What they didn’t realize was that the futon sofa bed is being found more and more in the modern home. Because of the same features of the past, the futon bed is making a comeback.

Some of these features do, in fact, include the price. You can find a futon that is in the twin or full size for about $125-150 USD, depending on where you shop. Online retailers often have special deals on both pricing and shipping. This may or may not include a frame as well. The frame, for the most part, will not be anything extraordinary, though it will be functional. Other sizes and styles go up in price from there. But, in most cases you can find a futon mattress for under $1,000 USD and significantly less their conventional mattress counterparts.  Make sure when you buy a futon, you buy appropriate bedding to use with it.
