Benefits and Drawbacks of an Electric Cement Mixer

When it comes to mixing concrete or cement, an electric cement mixer is the construction worker’s best friend. The advantages that electrically powered concrete mixers bring are beneficial not to the construction work per se but also to the workers themselves.

Mixing concrete must be done continuously within a certain period of time to achieve the desired consistency. If it is done manually, you cannot just leave it halfway or anytime after you have started the blending process since it will dry up and the consistency is affected. Moreover, one person can mix only a certain amount of concrete so that big batches need more workers to do it properly. With electric concrete mixers, one worker is enough to do the mixing and he can do other things while waiting for the job to get done. Although most electric mixers can do small batches depending on its motor capacity, it can blend in lesser time so at the end of the day more batches is finished minus the worker’s body aches.

In addition, portable and tow electric cement mixers are available for easy transport and use anywhere inside construction areas. These construction machinery do not have complicated manuals since its operation is very easy and depending on the location, electric mixers are usually cheaper to run compared to diesel or gasoline cement mixers.

Along with the advantages of electric concrete mixers come certain drawbacks that also need to be seriously considered. One major disadvantage is that it needs a nearby source of electricity which could be a problem in certain areas. Also, if the power source becomes unavailable during blackouts and other power failure problems, you need to have a backup generator, which is another investment. Else, the equipment becomes useless. Furthermore, the danger of electrocution is high when these mixers are used outdoors in wet seasons.

However, if one has to look at it carefully, these disadvantages are actually controllable. That is why many construction companies and even ordinary individuals still opt to buy or rent an electric cement mixer both for home and commercial construction use because its benefits outweighs its drawbacks.
