Draught Excluders: Furnishings to Transform a House to a Home

Many new build homes are very generic in there appearance and it takes a long time to transform them from a house in to a home. Of course there are things that you can do to accelerate this transformation but on the whole these are larger tasks that can take a weeks worth of hard work and cost a lot of money. The first thing that springs to mind is simply putting up some wall paper or painting all of the rooms in your home. Major Effort Required!

You’ll be glad to hear then that actually there is a very easy way to transform your home that needn’t cost a lot of money and is extremely quick to achieve a new look with. The best way to get a homely feel is by adding some soft furnishings and dotting them around the place. The types of furnishing that you can get are endless but some of my favourites are soft draught excluders for under doors, characterised doorstops for holding doors open, rugs, cushions and throws.

You do have to be careful though with the use of throws because they can have the effect of making your home look more like a hippy palace that a nice place to live. Draping your furniture in throw can make it look as through you are trying to hide something so you may well be advised to avoid this. A neatly folded throw at the end of a bed can make a really nice soft homely feeling bedroom though.

The good old sausage dog draught excluder is a great way of introducing some kitsch style and humour in to your home. If you live in an older house you may well find that they do actually keep draughts from out of your room and so actually perform a functional task too. Of course the traditional draught excluder doesn’t have to just take the form of a sausage dog and there are now many alternative decorative draught excluders on the market.

Without having to go through each item on the aforementioned list I am sure that you can now see why if you have a generic interior it is actually very easy to dress it up so that it can look very homely. This is actually a great positive of keeping your wall colours neutral – you can actually change the look and feel of your home very quickly indeed. If you’re the sort of person that likes a change around every so often this would be the perfect way for you to decorate your rooms.
