Commercial Waffle Makers Versus Professional Quality Makers, Is There A Real Difference?

There is no misunderstanding that if a small breakfast business advertises the word waffle anywhere in its name, fully commercial waffle making appliances are a necessary expense. However, for those who only offer a waffle or two as a breakfast choice or for the home-based caterer who do the occasional brunch meal, is a full-tilt full cost waffle maker needed? Let us take a look at a couple of options in the waffle creation market.

Waring, the folks best known for blenders, have the WMK300 Professional Belgian Waffle Maker. This model is advertised as providing really deep pockets that create the thickest waffles going today. What separates Waring’s offering from many others is that it has a rotating feature that is supposed to guarantee an evenly baked breakfast treat, both top and bottom.  As this is supposed to be the case with all commercial waffles makers, one would hope that this is a given.

The WMK300 with its slightly militaristic name also has a knob to control the color of the waffle. Several other professional grade products feature actual levels of color selection, a bit more sophisticated than the simple knob. This waffle baker has brushed stainless steel on its housing, but is not a solid stainless steel model.

VillaWare has a product called the Compact Pro Belgian Waffler. While not calling its products commercial waffle makers, VillaWare copies the raised design that is commonly found in restaurant’s waffle equipment. The baking process starts with the batter sitting horizontally in the raised stand and once baking begins, the unit can be flipped to ensure evenness.

Like many commercial waffle makers, the smaller Waffler does have six separate choices for level of brownness and even offers some settings just to keep the waffles warm. It does take about eight minutes for this device to hit full power and another five minutes on top to completely finish a waffle. If time is of the essence, five minutes can feel painfully slow.
