Is it time to make a change to the interiors of your bedroom? Tired of sleeping in a room with little to no character? If your bedroom is big enough and your ceilings high enough then now is the time to consider a canopy bed. They can be full of romance for the young daughter who wants to be a princess or provide plenty of sophistication and class for the couple who want a strong statement in their room all year round and not just when staying in a swanky hotel.
Canopy beds can create very different effects depending on their style and the types of fabrics used for the canopies themselves, clearly a light gauzy fabric will create a very different mood compared to a heavy velvet material draping down to the floor. Equally you can decide to have your fabric hanging loosely down all around the bed, bunched towards the side or coiled round the posts and each will create different effects. If possible try experimenting with different looks until you are satisfyied.
The other main decision will be to choose the right kind of frame to mate the rest of your décor. Wooden frames have an old world charm and come in different colours and shades. Perhaps you have a more minamilist interior in which case consider a metal or iron version. If you want something delicate in metal or iron then find something a little more ornamental. If the tubing lacks decoration and is a little thin then the farme will look flimsy, unstable and ultimately cheap.
As mentioned above consider the size of your room and the height of the ceiling, nothing loks worse than a canopy bed that completely dominates a room and has been squeezed into a space too small to take it. These four posters make a big statement, make sure your bedroom can take it. As well as the bed you will probably want other bedroom furniture in a similar style to compliment the effect. Can your room stand it?
One of the best qualities about this kind of bed is that you have a feeling of being enclosed, warm and safe. Of course this might not be such a great side effect if you live in a very warm climate. In this instance if you still want the same effect without feeling claustrophobic over time then make sure the canopy is light and breezy, more like an ornamental mosquito net.
If you can afford it try looking around for an antique canopy bed, they will have a great deal more character and give you a more individual feel which in turn will make it a piece of furniture you will want to hang on to forever. A modern contemporary design might look great now but will it look a little dated in a few years time?
