A lot of people have outdated looking bathrooms and would like to give it a more contemporary look. The problem most people find is that it is quite difficult to focus on what exactly is a modern look. This article will look at the ways to modernize the bathroom to bring it up to date.
One aspect, that is probably the most important, is the color scheme of the contemporary bathroom. If you have a lot of natural light then you could probably get away with darker colors. Unfortunately, most bathrooms have limited light and, if this is the case, you should look at lighter colors. The best place to start is at your local home improvement store. They will have swabs of colors available for you to take away. This will give you a good idea of the ranges of colors available and also what works well together.
After picking which colors you prefer, the next step is to decide how you are going to add these elements to the bathroom. First, consider the walls. Will you be using paint, tiles, wallpaper or a combination of them. Next is to think about the type of flooring you would like to install. The main choices to look at are wood, tiling and carpeting. Wood is my favorite and looks great in a contemporary bathroom. The main disadvantage is that it can be subject to water damage. Therefore, a good alternative is wood effect laminate flooring. Carpet has two main disadvantages in that it is, again, prone to water damage and has issues with hygiene.
Deciding on the color scheme and materials you are going to use in the bathroom makes the next step of choosing the bathroom suite a lot easier. Manufacturers are now making many different types of beautiful designs. One important piece of advice is to pick something that is functional and not something based on its aesthetics. Also, you will need to decide whether to install a bath shower combination or something more look luxurious like the steam showers.
The next area to look at is the fixtures and fittings. All the fixtures of the different components of the bathroom suite should match. For the ultimate, contemporary appearance the materials of choice are chrome finish and stainless steel. Leave brass fixtures for the period or antique looking bathroom.
A rain shower head is one of my favorites in the bathroom, replacing the older style head. Compared to the normal shower head, they are much larger and go well in the modern looking bathroom. If all you need is a head to wash your hair, then you can find them available as a just a hand held model.
Once you have finished installing all the components, the next area to look at is the accessories. A current, modern trend is to use mirrored finished bathroom vanities. They are a functional and beautiful choice of furniture. Making sure all other items such as bins and toilet brushes match will add the final, perfect look to the bathroom.
